MANCHESTER, N.H. — A Manchester man accused of waving a gun at a crowd of people was taken down and disarmed by the group of neighbors.
Police say Brian Landry, 51, was driving under the influence when he crashed into parked cars on Hanover Street, late Sunday afternoon. Landry then parked and walked toward the scene, as neighbors gathered.
Rick Blais told police and Boston 25 News he heard the commotion and came outside, where he found Landry swearing at and insulting his girlfriend. A fight broke out, Blais said, and Landry allegedly began waving a gun at him and the growing crowd while their children were nearby.
“We all kind of went after his arms and tried to get the gun off him,” Blais said. "And it luckily hit the ground and somebody was able to grab it and run it off over on the curb.”
Surveillance video from a nearby home shows a group of people emerge from behind parked cars and force Landry to the ground. Some throw punches as he is lying near the middle of the street. One person drags him unconscious to the side of the road.
When officers arrived, they found Landry still knocked out, police said. Officers found a .38 caliber handgun at the scene.
But neighbor Cydni Buxton, who told Boston 25 News she arrived after the fight had started, said Blais was unnecessarily aggressive and Landry, though accused of driving while intoxicated, was defending himself when he pulled the gun.
“He kicked him in the head and hit him repeatedly upside the head,” Buxton said. “And then they kind of backed off him, and he stood up and he kind of backed up in the middle of the street, and he pulled (the gun) out of his pants and he started waving it at all the people who hit him.”
Landry was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He was later charged with criminal threatening and operating under the influence.
Landry appeared in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North on Monday for a bail hearing. His disposition hearing is set for Dec. 14.
