BOSTON — A dangerous drug switch on the streets of Boston could cause many problems, especially for illicit opioid users.
The Boston Police Department posted a warning on their website Wednesday saying that pills being sold illegally on the street as Oxycodone are actually made of Fentanyl.
The pills are marked with A/215 and formed to look exactly like a 30 mg Oxycodone pill.
"Fentanyl is the new epidemic. It's cheaper. It's more deadly than heroin and it is spreading across Massachusetts killing 754 people last year,” Sen. Ed Markey said earlier this week.
Police are investigating and asking anyone with information about the pills to contact the Boston Police Drug Control Unit at (617) 343-5625.
