Police searching for person who stole boy with autism's special tricycle

ROCKLAND, Mass. — UPDATE May 5: Police say they have recovered the tricycle and 'we have some promising leads" for who the suspect is.

ORIGINAL POST: Police are trying to find the person who stole a young boy with autism’s tricycle.

That boy is named is Dillon, and he rides his bike every day, with stuffed animals inside his basket.

Dillon’s mother she says he saw the other kids in the neighborhood riding bikes, but he couldn't ride a regular bicycle.

"He wanted to ride a bike too. We tried a normal bike and he was very frustrated,” Jeanne Doyle said.

That's when they found a special tricycle that he could ride.

"The day we got it for his birthday, the day we got on it, he's been riding up and down the street every day since," she said.

But on Tuesday when Dillon went to the shed to get his bike it was missing.

"He went and got his stuffed animals and went to the shed and it was gone. He said, "Hey where my bike,” Jeanne said.

Someone stole Dillon's tricycle. He knows it's gone but so far is keeping busy playing with other toys. Jeanne says the outpouring of support from neighbors and social media is amazing.

"Unbelievable. I put it on Facebook and people from everywhere are saying ‘we'll donate money, we'll buy him a new bike,’” she said.

Jeanne says she appreciates the kind offers but hopes Dillon's bike can be found.
