Police search for potential serial robbers after violent incident in Littleton

LITTLETON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Littleton police are trying to track down three suspects in a violent late-night robbery at the Shell Travel Plaza on King Street.

Police say three men entered the gas station armed with knives and a semi-automatic rifle Wednesday night.

A clerk inside the store at the time said he noticed the men had their hoods up as they entered and commented, "It's cold, but not that cold." One of the men replied, "You have no idea."

One of the suspects then jumped over the counter and pistol-whipped one clerk. A second clerk was pushed to the ground.

The suspects took off with cash, cigarettes, and a cell phone. They fled in a car parked around the corner. Investigators are looking into whether or not a fourth suspect was in the getaway car.

Detectives were able to track their location through the stolen phone, but the robbers eventually turned it off. Police say they were heading for Route 2 near Fort Devens.

One of the clerks suffered minor injuries.

The three men are described as being in their late teens or early 20s. Littleton's police chief said this crew may be responsible for other robberies in Fitchburg, Leominster, and Ashburnham.

State Police are investigating.
