FREMONT, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Police are investigating an "apparent homicide" in Fremont, New Hampshire Friday.
The investigation began when an adult woman was found dead in her home located at 296 Main St. People in the small town are in a state of utter disbelief as police process the scene of an apparent murder, and town officials say it's the first in the town's 250 year history.
Neighbors say the woman lived alone and mostly kept to herself.
"Usually when she walks by she'll sit and talk with us very, very sweet lady," one neighbor said.
The woman worked at a store called the Liberty Square Market across the street from her home. The store's owner says she usually shows up to work at 5:30 a.m., but got a call from Fremont police Friday morning saying she had passed away.
"I'm just in shock. Just cant believe it such a sweet loving happy go lucky person has passed away," Barry Arnofsky, store owner, said.
State and local police searched for the suspect for hours Friday morning, but later found him dead due to an apparent suicide in a truck near the murder scene. The AG's office hasn't confirmed the names of the suspect or victim pending family notification, only saying the two were acquaintances. The medical examiner is performing an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, officials say.
Those who knew the victim are left wondering who could've done this and why.
"I'm really shocked this is even going on. Especially to someone like her," the victim's neighbor said.
