Braintree crash victims were stepbrothers on their way to work

BRAINTREE, Mass. — Two young men were killed in a car crash along Granite Street in Braintree on Wednesday.

The two men, identified as 23-year-old Bryan Davila Martinez and 20-year-old Jan Rivera, were stepbrothers from Randolph on their way to work at the Quincy Walmart, according to family members.

A pickup truck collided with a sedan, killing both Martinez and Rivera inside the sedan, police said in a news release.

“That’s just really sad because no one knows what’s going to happen from day to day,” said Donna Fooks, a Walmart customer. “I can’t imagine the family members that had to get that call telling them [what had] happened and the store, you know the managers or employees that know them and work with them, might be friends with them you know, I’m sure it must be really devastating.”

One of the men was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, the other man was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Walmart told Boston 25 News, in a statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our amazing associates, Bryan and Jan, and our hearts go out to their family.”

Rivera’s family says just two weeks ago he had saved a co-worker’s life by giving them CPR.

His family says he was always with Martinez and that the two were very hardworking young men who loved spending time with family.

“My heart goes out to his family, especially knowing that they’re going to work and someone’s not coming home tonight, so it’s really sad,” said Mayra, a customer.

Police say the crash happened in the travel lane of the pickup truck, but the cause and circumstances are still being investigated.

The crash is still under investigation.
