DORCHESTER, Mass. — The city was just digging out after its first big snow storm when tragedy struck.
A Dorchester man was struck and killed by a dump trucking being used to plow snow late Sunday morning.
“You could still see the plow truck, and you could see white blankets under it because they couldn’t get him out at the time,” said witness Shelby Shipley.
Shipley is the victim’s neighbor, who his family has identified as Nicholas Tammaro.
“It was surreal. He was nice. He was very quiet though. He liked to keep to himself,” said Shipley.
Tammaro was in his late 60s and lived just steps from where he was hit and killed.
Shipley said investigators came to their apartment building trying to piece together what happened.
“They were wondering if he was home and they were knocking on the door. Nobody was answering it, but you could still see his car parked across the street,” Shipley told FOX25.
Boston police told FOX25 the driver of the snow plow is cooperating with the investigation.
“It’s a tragic accident. It’s unclear as to what happened, how much the sun had to pay with it. At the time, the sun was shining brightly down the street,” said Boston police Supt. O’Rourke.
FOX25 spoke to the victim’s family, and they have requested their privacy.
FOX25 also reached out to Salvucci Engineering, the private company who owns the truck, and got no answer.
