Patriots win latest in string of championships for "Titletown"

BOSTON — This latest championship for the Patriots marks the 12th for Boston sports teams since 2001. There's no denying it – Boston is on a winning streak.

For the sixth time, the New England Patriots are NFL kings once again. New England's victory in Atlanta vaults them into a first-place tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers for most Super Bowl victories.

It's the latest Boston sports triumph in a string of championships that reaches back more than a century.

And on Monday, just one day after the Patriots hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, crowds turned out at Fenway Park just to see a Red Sox spring training equipment truck gearing up for a trip to Florida.

Just three months ago, the Red Sox won their latest World Series in Los Angeles.

"It's like the day my first child was born, I'm all tingly," said Gary Gresh of Holyoke. "It's unbelievable."

For decades the Red Sox were stuck on 1918. The Curse of the Bambino was in full swing. But those days are long gone, everything has changed since then.

The four professional sports teams are so successful in Boston that "Duck Boat" is another way to say championship.

There doesn't seem to be any stop to the winning or the parades. It's enough to make you wonder, what's in that dirty water? Boston Red Sox President Sam Kennedy has a theory.

"I do think there is something to this rising tide lifting all the ships," Kennedy said. "There's a competition amongst all the teams to be playing games that are meaningful in the post season, where its Celtics, Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots – it’s amazing."

It’s easy to see why other cities are jealous of what we have here in Boston.

On a Monday in February, the truck leaves for Florida and the temperature at Fenway hits 60 degrees. Just one more way Boston is still here, still winning.

"You can’t hate what’s awesome," said Karen Gori of Elliott, Maine. "You just can't."
