22-year-old man killed after crash in Gloucester involving car, tractor-trailer

A 22-year-old man from Gloucester was killed after a fatal crash Monday morning.

Police were diverting traffic on Route 128 north in Gloucester after the crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer just south of exit 12.

Route 128 was temporarily closed in the area near the crash and northbound traffic was being diverted at exit 13, according to State Police.

State Police said Johnathan Silva was traveling northbound on Route 128 when he drove into the rear of a Kenworth truck. His reason for doing so is still under investigation. He died at the scene, according to State Police.

Images captured from Sky 25 showed a car that appeared to have crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer.

Shortly after the crash on the northbound side, State Police said on Twitter that a second crash on the southbound side, adjacent to the fatal crash, caused minor injuries and the left lane was closed.

Investigators were still at the fatal crash scene and traffic was still being diverted at around 10:30 a.m., according to a tweet from Dustin Fitch, a State Police trooper.

Correction: An earlier headline incorrectly listed the crash on Interstate 95. It happened on Route 128.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
