HOLLISTON, Mass. — Senior year is supposed to be one of the most memorable years of high school. This year has been, but for the wrong reasons. A group of parents in Holliston have launched a campaign to celebrate these students and help deliver some happiness their senior year.
As they load-up and pack their cars with gift bags parents are well aware that their kids are missing out on once-in-a-lifetime events.
“These gifts are going to be small little tokens of appreciation to know they are going through a difficult year, but we just want to bring some joy to their day and their face,” said Kim Givens.
Givens and several other parents of seniors at Holliston High School started an initiative called “Adopt A Senior.” On the 21st of each month and continuing until graduation they are delivering small gift bags to each of the 200 seniors in the class of ’21.
“What we wanted to do is bring the town together and help support our seniors to have some sort of joyful, fun senior year,” said parent Anne-Marie Dorning.
The gift bags have a poem attached and include things like candy and car decals. The first seniors to be surprised with gift bags were Sophia Loricco and Kyra Reinstein.
”This is just like an awesome way to make the year more bearable and more fun kind of connect everyone because we are all remote right now,” Reinstein said.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Kyra and Sophia, and their classmates have missed out on almost all senior-year rituals. In fact, they haven’t even been able to gather as a whole senior class yet.
“It helps lift our spirits a lot because we spend a lot of time at home and can’t really be around our friends very much so this is really nice of them to do,” Loricco said.
There’s a ‘senior fund’ set-up for the Holliston high class of 2021.
They’re looking to raise $50 for each of the 200 seniors for senior week activities – including a parade and a parking lot party.
