A little more than a week after being displaced by a devastating fire at their home, a Brockton family staying with friends in Roxbury again narrowly escaped tragedy Tuesday afternoon.
A dump track on Clarence Street careened out of control, hitting several vehicles and crashing into the front of the home – stopping just feet from 1-year-old Lucas.
“I found Lucas here he was just shaking,” homeowner Maria Barbosa said.
Barbosa found the son of her family friend clenching onto the spindles of the stairwell in the moments after the crash.
“He was very lucky very lucky,” she said.
Surveillance video from a neighbor’s home captures the beginning of the dump truck’s destructive path before it careens out of frame.
Lucas’ 7-year-old brother Pedro was in the kitchen when the crash happened.
“It was like rahh boom,” Pedro said. “It broke the whole thing. It broke the living room.”
For the second time this month, he worried that he and his brother Lucas would have to find a new play to stay.
“The mom is so strained because of what happened to her house,” Barbosa said. “Thank God everybody’s fine.”
Investigators still working to determine what caused composting company dump truck to lose control.
The driver tells Boston 25 News that his large, rubber work boots potentially got caught in between the pedals.
Boston 25 News reached out to Cero for comment but the company has not responded.
No charges have been filed at this time.
