Online petition calls for Gillette to drop name from Patriots' stadium

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

Thousands of people have signed an online petition pushing for the Gillette company to remove its name from the home stadium of the New England Patriots, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

The petition has already garnered more than 13,000 signatures and calls for the Procter & Gamble Company, Gillette's parent company, to live up to the standards the company touted in a January commercial announcing the new tagline: "The best men can be."

With Robert Kraft, the owner of the team, facing recent charges of soliciting prostitution at a Florida massage parlor authorities allege was part of a largescale human trafficking ring, the petition on Care2.com calls for Gillette to put its words into action. Kraft has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The petition says, in part, that the new tagline "represents the brand's commitment to promoting healthy representations of what masculinity means — a decision made in response to the #MeToo movement and news story after news story showing men not behaving their best," and calls for Gillette to end sponsorship of the stadium.

Care2 describes itself on its website as "a network of millions of people around the globe, dedicated to building a better world," using technology and its "team of experienced campaigners to fuel the progressive movement."
