Officer injured, man killed in Millis crash identified

MILLIS, Mass. — The Millis police officer injured in a fatal crash over the weekend has been identified, along with the person who was killed.

According to the department, 61-year-old Gary Kaufman was died from his injuries sustained when he and Millis Police Officer Craig Thompson, 32, collided on Main Street Saturday.

Kaufman was taken to Norwood Hospital after the wreck, where he later died.

Police say Officer Thompson’s left arm was “suffered significant injuries.”

Police said Thompson was on-duty at the time patrolling the area. He was not responding to a call, according to the department.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Unit is investigating the crash.
