DUMMER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 60-year-old New York man was seriously injured in a one-car crash that occurred on Route 16 in Dummer, N.H. Saturday afternoon.
New Hampshire State Police troopers responded to the report of a serious car crash on Route 16 just north of Pontook Dam at about 2:30 p.m.
George Gates, of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., the driver of the car, was wearing a seatbelt, but due to the age of the car, a 1967 Porsche, it only had a lap belt. Gates had to be cut out of the car. He was taken by Med-Flight to Maine Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
An investigation at the scene showed the car was headed south from Errol and entered into a section of "S" curves; however, the car was going too fast and lost control of the car. The car went off the west side of the road, scraping a telephone poll and then hitting a tree head on.
Police said Gates was driving with two other vehicles, but neither witnessed the crash. There were no other passengers in Gates' car.
