DORCHESTER, Mass. — A 2-alarm fire broke out early Wednesday on the top floor of a house on Melville Avenue, but all of the occupants made it out without any injuries.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke in the back of the single-family home according to the Boston Fire Department. The fire was knocked down around 3 a.m. All three occupants, who were house sitting while the owners were on vacation, got out of the house safely, Deputy Chief Andre Stallworth said.

The cause of the fire, which caused about $200,000 in damages, is under investigation. Stallworth said the house was being renovated.
