Delta delivers pizza to passengers on diverted flights

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSB-TV) -- Severe storms moving through metro Atlanta caused problems for airlines Wednesday afternoon, diverting a few flights and delaying others.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said the weather, and a radar-confirmed tornado near the airport, caused delays up to 30 minutes at the world's busiest airport.

Some flights were diverted to other cities as the storms blew through, something that can cause a lot of headaches for travelers. But one airline went above and beyond to keep their passengers happy.

ABC News’ Rob Marciano tweeted that his wife was on one of the planes headed to Atlanta that was diverted to Columbia, South Carolina. As the passengers waited on the plane, Delta ordered pizza for them. Along with the tweet was a photo of the flight attendant passing out the pizza to travelers.

Delta confirmed they delivered pizza to customers on five flights that diverted to Columbia, and Marciano wasn’t the only one tweeting about the airline’s great service.

"@Delta amazing job. You can't control the weather, but you did control the communication. Thnx for the surprise pizza party on the plane!" one passenger tweeted.

“Many thanks to Delta #2573 crew & the ground crew at CAE for your hospitality! Pizza was appreciated!” wrote another passenger.
