Nasty-looking crash in Hanson sends woman to hospital

HANSON, Mass. — The driver of an SUV was flown to the hospital after rear-ending an tractor-trailer in Hanson Thursday morning, Fire Chief Jerome Thompson told Boston 25 News.

The crash happened around 10:15 a.m. on Liberty Street (Route 58), near the entrance to the Hanson Middle School.

Police said a tractor-trailer, owned by Schafer Trucking of Ohio, was heading south on Liberty Street and had stopped at a traffic light. The driver of the SUV, a 50-year-old woman from Carver, did not stop and crashed into the back of the trailer. The woman told police she had looked away from the road for a moment and didn’t see the truck stop. Police say the woman was not texting.

“The initial investigation says she simply looked away from the roadway in front of her,” Hanson Police said. “Please pay attention and drive safe.”

The driver of the SUV was flown to a hospital in Boston for treatment, but her injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn’t hurt.

Liberty Street was closed for about 30 minutes while crews cleaned the road.

Police are investigating the crash.
