MSPCA: Woman abandoned dog at East Bridgewater groomer

EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The MSPCA is asking for the public's help in identifying a woman who dropped a dog off at a groomer and never returned.

On Thursday, August 23, a woman brought an older male English bulldog to the Sweet Garden Pet Resort in East Bridgewater for grooming. Officials say the woman never returned for the dog.

The woman listed her name as Melanie Wichester, but when East Bridgewater Police later ran the name through its database, they realized she gave a fake name. She is described as a Caucasian woman, mid-40s with long red hair pulled into a ponytail. She is approximately 5'6" and was wearing a gray t-shirt with blue jeans and an eye patch over her right eye.

MSPCA officials say the dog, which the woman said was named William Katz, was suffering from pressure sores and ear infections. He will likely need surgery.

The Long Island Bulldog Rescue Group has agreed to take in the dog after his stray hold expires this Thursday. This group will then assume responsibility for his care and eventual adoption.

Anyone with information on this woman is asked to call MSPCA at (800)628-5808.
