Mother furious after 5-year-old dropped off at wrong bus stop

BROOKLINE, Mass. — A mother is furious after her 5-year-old son's summer camp bus dropped him off at the wrong location and to a person she doesn't know.

There was initially some confusion about where Melissa Ogungbadero preferred to have her son Braden dropped off after she inquired with the Brookline Parks and Rec department that morning to see if there was a spot closer to home she could bring him to in the future. But she says the bigger problem is that the driver never checked the ID of the person he was released to.

Even though that bus monitor was fired, Ogungbadero said Braden is never going back to camp.

"It was the wrong bus stop, the person who they claimed took him off the bus wasn't the one who took him off the bus,” she said.

Ogungbadero said she waited for more than an hour at the High Street bus stop where she dropped her son off that morning. When she called the camp, they contacted the driver and learned of the mistake.

At first, the driver said they checked the ID of the person they released Braden to, but a short time later that story changed and the driver admitted they never checked.

"While we were communicating with them someone came up and asked if we were looking for a little boy,” Ogungbadero said.

Braden was brought back his mother’s apartment by the parent he was released to, but she was already gone searching for him. A neighbor spotted him wandering and helped return him to his mother.

Officials from the Brookline Recreation Department tell FOX25 that police were contacted during the incident, and even with 500 kids in that camp there has never been a problem like this in 60 years of operation.
