MIDDLEBORO (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A Middleboro business owner has been issued a zoning violation because the tulips he planted in front of his River Street factory violate landscape regulations.
Ron High, 43, of Duxbury, will attend a Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on Thursday night to address the four zoning violations he was issued for the property where his composting and recycling business sits, reports The Enterprise.
High bought the property three years ago and spent more than $1 million
removing hazardous waste from the property so he could open A-Plus Waste
Removal which consists of two buildings on a residential street.
In an effort to improve the property, High planted 1,200 red, yellow and white
tulip bulbs, which bloom in spring, in addition to 300 white spruce trees, 10
cedar trees, nine rose bushes and 11 peonies last fall, reports the paper.
However, he was then cited for not only the tulips, but also because a building is too close to the property line, the parking lot is too close to Auburn Street, and he did not have a permit to do work near a wetland.
According to the paper, Zoning Board of Appeals member Darrin G. DeGrazia said High's plan to run a composting and recycling facility does not sit well with neighbors who were used to a quiet country road.
High plans to open his business by fall and expects to hire a workforce of up
to 50 people.
