Easthampton, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Storms rolled through Massachusetts early Wednesday morning and the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the storm system created a microburst in Easthampton.
The microburst formed in the Mount Tom region of Easthampton with winds of 100 miles per hour. The weather service report listed the microburst as a quarter-mile wide and a mile long.
It flattened hundreds of trees and brought down power lines, prompting the western Massachusetts town's Mayor Karen Cadieux to declare a state of emergency.
According to the Associated Press, Fire Chief David Mottor said several residents were injured, but did not require hospitalization. Police said two motorists were rescued after their vehicles became trapped by fallen wires.
