Survey: Fancy date night is more expensive in Boston than 100+ other cities worldwide

If you’re planning a fancy date night in Boston, you may need to take out a second mortgage.

According to an Upgraded Points survey of 120 cities worldwide, an upscale date in Boston ranked as second most expensive.

The study included the cost of a three-course dinner (including wine), tickets for two of the best seats at a theater, two drinks at a bar after the show and transportation to get around.

Boston was second only to New York City.

The total cost of a date in Boston was estimated at $428.88. The total includes $106.00 for dinner, $282.00 for theater tickets, $13.00 for drinks after the show and $14.88 for transportation.

Rounding out the top five most expensive cities to go on a date was Zurich, Switzerland; San Francisco and San Diego.

The five least expensive cities to go on a date were Alexandria, Egypt; Belgrade, Serbia; Algiers, Algeria; Manila, Philippines and Tunis, Tunisia.

Generally, the study found the United States had higher costs for food and for theater tickets than many other cities in the world.
