State senator faces trial on drunken driving charge

QUINCY, Mass. — The trial is scheduled to begin for a Massachusetts state senator who was charged with drunken driving following a traffic stop in Weymouth last year.

Democratic Sen. Michael Brady, of Brockton, also faces charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation in Quincy District Court on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty at his March 2018 arraignment.

Brady will be given the option of having his case heard by a judge or a jury.

In the days after his arrest, Brady apologized to family, constituents, and friends and colleagues at the Statehouse for any embarrassment the incident caused. He also announced he was seeking professional treatment and counseling for alcohol abuse.

Brady won a special election to the Senate in 2015 after serving in the House.
