BARNSTABLE COUNTY, Mass. — Mashpee, Bourne, Falmouth and Barnstable high schools all received phoned-in threats Friday, said police.
All threats were called in around the same time.
Falmouth Police said an investigation revealed the threat was likely a hoax, but officials evacuated the school as a precaution and the school is being searched.
Bourne Public Schools said that police inspected the entire school. Friday night, a planned basketball game at Bourne was delayed after the threat forced officials to send students from the buildings while a K-9 unit swept the athletic facilities.
"It was weird to go in after that," said student athlete Dan Minkle. "It was kind of nerve wracking."
"I think they have to take these things serious because we never know. That might be part of a plot to get people off guard and something could happen," said Diane Simmons, whose grandson attends Bourne High school.
Barnstable Police said that the threat was unfounded at Barnstable High.
Bourne High School serves about 600 students, Falmouth High School has about 870 students and Mashpee High about 700 students.
State Police said the bomb squad is responding.
