Masconomet cancels football game

BOXFORD, Mass. — Just when high school football season is ramping up, Masconomet Regional High School is taking a loss next weekend.

An incident prompted the coach to forfeit the game against Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury as a disciplinary measure. The school district - which serves Boxford, Middleton and Topsfield – wouldn’t give details of what exactly happened.

The Chieftains had been set to take on Pentucket at one o’clock Saturday afternoon.

“Masconomet will not field a team against Pentucket Regional in football this coming weekend. It is a coach’s decision, fully supported by the School administration and the District administration. This is a student discipline matter, and the District can have no further comment,” superintendent Kevin Lyons said.

The team was practicing Wednesday night at the high school.

Boston 25 News reached out to Lyons and the coaches for any further information or an on camera interview, but they all declined.
