Autopsy inconclusive in suspicious death of 1-year-old in Manchester

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Manchester, New Hampshire Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 1-year-old.

Police were called to the Econo Lodge on West Hancock Street around 6 p.m. Monday for a medical issue involving a 1-year-old girl. Police say the toddler was unresponsive when they arrived. The girl was taken to Catholic Medical Center where she later died.

Her death is considered suspicious.

"We are investigating this as a suspicious death, not a death caused by natural causes. But other than that there have been no charges and the investigation is in the beginning stages," said Manchester Police Public Information Officer Heather Hamel.

Police say there were adults with the child but it's unclear if they had fallen asleep or were not paying attention.

An autopsy was performed by the medical examiner but the cause of death is undetermined. Officials say they need to do additional toxicology and testing to learn a definitive cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Manchester Police.
