Man wanted for rape caught taping upskirt video, say police

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A man wanted for rape was caught taping an upskirt video at MBTA's Porter Square station, said Transit Police.

On Wednesday, on the escalator at Porter Square Station, a passenger pointed out to a woman that a man was filming up her skirt, said police. The victim confronted the man, later identified as James Cullers, 51, of Boston, about the video. Cullers allegedly admitted to taping up her skirt and agreed to delete the video.

"He showed the pictures to the victim and the witness. The victim was able to identify herself on the photo that he showed her, as well as a screenshot from a video on the phone as well at which point the defendant deleted the images," prosecutors said in court Wednesday.

Transit Officers arrived and spoke to Cullers, who had a mobile phone in his hand. Officers learned he was a level 3 sex offender, stemming from a 1996 conviction for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Following an investigation, Cullers was taken into custody.

During the booking process, officers realized there was a warrant out for Cullers' arrest on charges of rape and two counts of incident assault and battery on a person over 14.

Cullers was additionally charged with making a secret video.

In court, Cullers' lawyer said he is homeless and the judge questioned how he could afford a cell phone.

He's being held on $30,000 bail.
