Man arrested for attempted murder in Weymouth stabbing

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — Weymouth Police have arrested a man following a stabbing outside a supermarket.

Officers responded to reports of a stabbing outside the Shaws Supermarket on Middle Street on Saturday evening.

According to police, the stabbing happened between a liquor store and the entrance of the supermarket during a busy shopping hour.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is currently recovering, but the extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

Shoppers say they couldn't believe the stabbing happened during such a busy time of day.

"Weymouth’s a safe town, it blows my mind really," said one shopper.

Police arrested 32-year-old Mark Allsopp for attempted murder following the stabbing. According to them, Allsopp knew the victim.

Allsopp is facing attempted murder charges along with charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

"It just doesn’t happen a lot in these areas and I got kids, like I said it’s a scary thing, to know that stuff’s around here when you got an 8-year-old," said Chris Vitello, a shopper.

Authorities continue to investigate this incident.
