Man arrested after boat chase on Lake Winnipesaukee

GUILFORD, N.H. — A New Hampshire man was arrested after police said he led them in a boat chase on Lake Winnipesaukee Thursday afternoon.

The New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol said they received a request from the Guilford Police Department to assist in an incident involving an assault.

Officers said the suspect, who was later identified as Peter Morrissette, 59, of Guilford, had left the scene of a domestic disturbance in a boat from the Smith Cove area of the lake.

The marine patrol unit spotted Morrissette’s boat and as it approached the vessel, Morrissette refused to cooperate and left the area.

The unit pursued him and was assisted by other patrol boats with officers onboard.

The pursuit continued at varying speeds for about an hour before contact was made via cellphone with Morrissette who agreed to turn himself in at Marine Patrol Headquarters.

Morrissette was arrested around 7:30 p.m. and was expected to be arraigned in court Friday on charges including felony reckless conduct, misdemeanor careless and negligent operation of boats, misdemeanor disobeying an officer, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

He is also being charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic violence-simple assault.
