QUINCY, Mass. — A Quincy man is now charged with murder after running over his ex-wife in their driveway in September.
Investigators initially thought Yan Long Chow, 55, accidentally hit 52-year-old Zhen Li, but they now believe it was intentional.
Chow and Li had been married and divorced twice, they had two children together, and at one point owned a restaurant together – but Li had sold her portion before her death.
The motive remains unclear, but prosecutors said that Chow may have had gambling debt.
His attorney denied those claims.
“There is no motive, he stood to gain nothing from that,” defense attorney Scott Martin said. “My client maintains his innocence he loves family, including his ex-wife.”
Neighbors said they believed Chow’s story last year and saw him as a grieving widower, but now they have to come to terms with the charges.
“I was surprised, it was a shock,” Ghislaine Matsvytis said.
