Maine woman charged with killing man in hit & run at baseball field

SANFORD, Maine — A Maine woman has been charged with manslaughter after she allegedly drove into a baseball field in Sanford, Maine on Friday night, striking and killing one pedestrian.

Officials received a call shortly after 7 p.m. for a woman erratically operating a vehicle on the field of the Goodall Park during a baseball game.

According to witnesses at the park, the woman entered the park through the main gate and drove onto the field.

Bystanders and ballplayers scattered around the field, trying to avoid being hit by the car as it drove around.

The woman then hit a closed gate and sped through the main gate, striking a pedestrian in the process and then drove away.

The pedestrian hit was identified as Douglas Parkhurst, 68, of Sanford. He died from his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Police later arrested and charged the driver, Carol Sharrow, 51, of Sanford, with manslaughter. Sharrow was then transported to York County Jail.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Sanford Police Department and Maine State Police.
