Lowell teen severely injured after he's thrown from moving pickup truck

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. — A 17-year-old from Lowell suffered traumatic injuries Wednesday after he was thrown from the bed of a moving pickup truck on the Tyngsborough-Hudson, N.H. border, officials said.

The boy fell out of a moving pickup truck that was “doing donuts" and driving erratically in the parking lot of Ayotte’s Stateline Smokin' Joe’s at 9:11 p.m., landed on his head and was seriously injured, Tyngsborough police said.

The teen was transported to Lowell General Hospital and was later airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The driver, a 19-year-old male, also from Lowell, remained at the scene, according to police. He was cited for operating to endanger and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Police said they will also move to suspend the 19-year-old's driver's license and have him declared an "immediate threat" by the registry of motor vehicles.

The name of the driver has not been released. Police said additional charges could be filed.
