BOSTON — Weddings have recovered from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, but inflation is driving up the overall cost of marriage celebrations across the United States, a recent study showed.
The Knot published a list of the average cost of a wedding based on location after compiling data from about 12,000 couples nationwide who got married between Jan. 1, 2022, and Dec. 31, 2022.
In 2022, “93% of weddings took place on their original date and were not postponed due to COVID,” The Knot wrote in its Real Weddings Study. “However, inflation is causing costs to increase across the board—high demand paired with shortages is making for a tricky situation. However, with the help of expert vendors and staying focused on what’s important, couples are still able to throw an amazing wedding day.”
In an effort to help couples get a better idea of what they can expect to spend on their chosen wedding day, The Knot revealed what people can expect to pay for a ceremony and reception in all states, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.
Massachusetts came in tied with New York for the second-highest average cost for a wedding at $46,000. Only New Jersey ranked higher with an average cost of $51,000.
Kansas, Oklahoma, and Utah had the most affordable average costs at $16,000.
