Worcester Public Schools to dismiss students early Monday, Tuesday due to heat

WORCESTER — Worcester Public Schools says it will dismiss students three hours early and has cancelled all half-day preschool on Monday and Tuesday due to the heat.

The school district cited “high temperatures expected on Monday and Tuesday this week, the use of water fountains in all schools still not allowed to be used due to COVID guidance, & the number of schools not air conditioned” as factors in its decision for early dismissal.

“WPS students will receive their lunch at school. The WPS will provide water to all students. It is also recommended your child bring additional water to school,” the district said in a tweet.

Headstart buildings will open at regular time and close at 12:30. There will be no transportation provided to or from Headstart on Monday and Tuesday.

Students attending the Central MA Collaborative will be in full-day session and will not be released early.
