CHARLTON, Mass. — A West Springfield woman was killed after a tractor-trailer crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on I-90 westbound at mile marker 85.6 in Charlton around 5:15 p.m.
State Police said a 2022 Freightliner truck driven by a 38-year-old man from Pompano Beach, Florida was temporarily stopped in the breakdown when a 2010 Honda Civic struck the truck from the rear.
The driver of the Honda Civic, a 27-year-old woman, was killed after she was entrapped in the vehicle. Her identity has not been released at this time.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Police are still investigating reasons why the Honda was being operated in the breakdown lane. The speed of the Honda is also believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
