Vigil held Sunday to remember teen killed in Pembroke crash

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — More than a thousand people came together at Brewster Gardens in Plymouth on Sunday evening to honor the lives of two 13-year-old girls who were hit by a drunk driver in Pembroke. Claire Zisserson, 13, was killed in that horrific crash in back on Dec. 29.

Zisserson was killed when an alleged drunken and drugged driver slammed his truck into the Subaru she was riding in just before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Church and Oak Streets. Zisserson’s friend, Kendall Zemotel, was also in the car and suffered severe injuries. At last report, she was in critical condition at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Zisserson’s mother was seriously hurt as well, but is home recovering.

“Claire, she’s an amazing young girl,” said Zack Adams, a friend of Claire Zisserson. “Always there for anybody that needed help. She was more than a best friend, she was a sister to everyone that knew her.”

Gregory Goodsell, 31, of Marshfield, is charged with manslaughter while operating under the influence. He has pleaded not guilty. A judge ordered Goodsell be held without bail.

GoFundMe’s have raised thousands of dollars for both Claire and Kendall’s families.

Both students attended the Rising Tide Charter Public School; faculty there says they will have counselors available Monday when class resumes and throughout the remainder of the year for those who may need someone to talk about this tragedy.

“Claire has been an amazing family member of our school,” said Michael O’Keefe, the head of Rising Tide Charter Public School. “So the loss of any family member is as hard as it gets.”
