NORWOOD, Mass. — Two men are facing multiple felony charges after allegedly assaulting a man and stealing his vehicle in Norwood.

According to police, around 9:41 p.m. on Thursday, Officer Sean Kelly was on patrol when he spotted a Honda Accord traveling on Broadway without its headlights or taillights on.

Police said the vehicle also ran a stop sign.

When Officer Kelly attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly refused to pull over and continued driving through several streets.

A short time later, a witness told officers that two men had abandoned a vehicle and fled on foot.

Officer Kelly then spotted two people running on Winter Street.

Responding officers were able to arrest both suspects after a brief foot pursuit.

Police say during the investigation, a man called police to report that he had been assaulted and that his vehicle had been stolen near the Norwood Central commuter rail station.

Investigators determined the victim had arranged to meet one of the suspects at the station.

During the meeting, police say that the victim was attacked by two men, who stole his cellphone, keys, and Honda Accord before fleeing.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

Police later confirmed that the Honda Accord recovered following the pursuit was the same vehicle reported stolen by the victim.

“Through interviews conducted by Officer Tyler Baker and Officer Kelly, they were able to piece together the events leading up to the robbery,” Chief Christopher Padden said in a statement. “This case highlights the value of proactive policing, outstanding teamwork, and quick decision-making on behalf of the officers of the 4-12 shift. What began as a simple motor vehicle violation quickly developed into the apprehension of two robbery suspects, the recovery of a stolen vehicle, and the successful investigation of a violent crime.”

Miranda Pizarro and Atkins are expected to be arraigned Friday in Dedham District Court.
