Police respond to incident on Piscataqua River Bridge connecting New Hampshire and Maine

Traffic is moving again on I-95 after an incident on a busy stretch of that highway connecting New Hampshire and Maine.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — 11:00 A.M. UPDATE: Traffic is moving again on I-95 after an incident on a busy stretch of that highway connecting New Hampshire and Maine.

The Piscataqua River Bridge runs between Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine.

I-95 was closed to drivers on both sides of the highway for more than several hours Thursday morning.

At 10:34 a.m., New Hampshire DOT announced that the southbound side was back open, then just before 11:00 a.m., the northbound side was reopened.

Maine State Police say it all started at about 6:30 a.m. when they were called to an incident involving a man on the northbound side of the highway.

“The Maine State Police has safely taken an individual into protective custody and transported him to a local hospital,” according to a statement from police.

“Due to him being taken into protective custody his name is not being released. We can confirm he is a resident of New Hampshire. Once completed the report on this incident will be submitted to the York County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges will be filed,” said Maine State Police.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
