Three-time Super Bowl champ Mike Vrabel voted into Patriots Hall of Fame

1997 - Mike Vrabel  (Ohio State)

FOXBORO — The Patriots Hall of Fame is three rings richer.

Former linebacker Mike Vrabel won the fan vote, beating out former Head Coach Bill Parcells and former offensive lineman Logan Mankins.

Known as a reserve linebacker when he signed as a free agent in 2001, Mike Vrabel would blossom into a Patriots legend as a key defensive piece and an NFL Films darling during several playoff runs. Vrabel plugged holes on each side of the defensive line and even moonlighted as a TE on offense, hauling in 10 touchdowns receptions in eight years, including two in back-to-back Super Bowls. Although the Patriots didn’t capture the Super Bowl in 2007, Vrabel was named a First Team All-Pro.

“It’s my pleasure to announce Mike Vrabel as this year’s selection to the Patriots Hall of Fame,” said Patriots owner Robert Kraft in a statement. “Mike’s leadership and versatility were principal to one of the most successful eras in franchise history, propelling the Patriots to three Super Bowl titles in four years and establishing multiple NFL records for consecutive-game win streaks. Many Patriots players have made contributions in all three phases of the game, but none more significantly than Mike. He was an eight-year starter on defense who also regularly contributed on special teams and is the only player in NFL history to score touchdowns on his first 10 career receptions, including touchdowns in back-to-back Super Bowl victories. He was respected for his football intellect and was destined to become a head coach in this league. I look forward to welcoming him back to New England, where his induction will preserve his legacy as one of the greatest players in franchise history.”

Vrabel won’t enter the Hall alone. He will be joined by former assistant coach Dante Scarnecchia.

Vrabel currently serves as the Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans. The date and time is to be determined.
