MARBLEHEAD, Mass. — Four Massachusetts golfers recently sank hole-in-one shots on the same hole on the same day in what the golf course is calling a “statistical anomaly.”

John Kane, Lisa DeSalvo, Susie Ryan, and Ray Colwell all recorded an ace at the par-3 eighth hole at the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead on June 9, course officials said in a Facebook post over the weekend.

In the post, officials wrote, “In what can only be described as a statistical anomaly, we had FOUR hole-in-ones on the 8th hole yesterday!... Congratulations to all four!

Depending on which tee box golfers hit from, the par-3 eighth hole at TCC ranges between 127 and 137 yards, according to the course scorecard.

To put the incredible feat into perspective, the odds of just two amateur golfers getting aces on the same hole at the same golf course on the same day are about 17-million-to-1, according to the National Hole-in-One Registry.

Here are some other fun hole-on-facts, according to the registry:

  • There are approximately 450 million rounds of golf played each year in the U.S
  • On average each course has about 25,000 – 30,000 rounds played each year
  • Each course reports 10-15 hole-in-ones each year
  • A hole-in-one is scored once every 3,500 golf rounds
  • The odds of making a hole-in-one is 1:3500
  • Only 1-2% of golfers score a hole-in-one during the year
  • The average years of playing is 24
  • The average handicap of golfers making hole-in-one is 14
  • The age group that makes the most holes in one is 50-59 (25%) and the next highest is 40-49 (24%)

Nevertheless, congratulations to all the golfers who made aces in Marblehead.
