WEYMOUTH, Mass. — The U.S. Coast Guard and Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office spent hours searching for a missing diver three miles off the coast of Florida. The diver went missing around 11 am, but officials say they didn’t recover his body on the ocean floor until 3:00 pm.

In an email to staff obtained by Boston 25, The President of South Shore Health Allen L. Smith, MD, MS confirmed that diver was the Hospital’s Chief of Medicine Robert McIntyre, who was also a husband and father.
“Along with being an extraordinarily talented physician who cared deeply about his patients and colleagues, Bob was known for his compassion, intelligence and sense of humor,” said Smith.
Dr. McIntyre worked at South Shore Hospital for 10 years and also served in the Medical Corps as a Captain in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.
The president also said the hospital has made resources available for any staff who needs help coping with this difficult loss.
South Shore Hospital issued a statement on the passing of Dr. McIntyre, Thursday night.
