ORANGE, Mass. — A skydiver was flown to the hospital after they suffered a “hard landing” on the roof of a building in Orange on Sunday night.
Emergency crews responding to a report of an incident involving a skydiver at the Seaman Paper warehouse in the town’s Industrial Park around 7 p.m. learned the victim’s reserve chute had became entangled, causing them to crash down on the roof, according to Orange Fire Rescue EMS.
Staffers with Jumptown Skydiving initially tended to the victim and told first responders that the individual was conscious and alert.
The skydiver’s injuries were deemed non-life-threatening but a medical helicopter was requested “due to the mechanism of injuries, and extended on scene and extrication time,” officials said. They were later flown to UMass Medical Center for treatment.
In a statement, Orange Fire Rescue EMS said, “We don’t have emergencies at Jumptown very often, in fact they run a very safe operation, but like any extracurricular activity, there are risks.”
An investigation remains ongoing.
