Quincy Police investigating after pedestrian struck, killed by car

QUINCY, Mass. — Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed in Quincy early Friday morning.

Police responded to Newport Ave. where 58-year-old Donald Bowes of Quincy had been hit by a car. Police told Boston 25 News he was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he later died.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers. Police have not said if they are facing any charges.

Boston 25 News cameras spotted a black BMW SUV with a dented hood and a smashed-up windshield at the scene. A backpack and a pair of shoes were also lying on the side of the road.

Bowes was a long time employee of the Boston Red Sox organization. In a statement, the Red Sox said, “we are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Donny Bowes this morning. He was beloved by countless co-workers and Red Sox fans during his 15 years with the security department. Donny’s endless energy and infectious positive attitude made a significant impact on the Fenway Park experience. He will be greatly missed.”

Police are investigating if Bowes was standing in a crosswalk when he was struck.

Newport Ave. was closed from Holbrook Road to the W. Squantum Street overpass for hours but has since reopened.
