QUINCY, Mass. — Massachusetts beaches always rank high when it comes to the best beaches. But in a new study, you may be surprised what city is taking a top spot on a best beaches list.
According to a new study, Quincy is the second-best beach town in Massachusetts. Right behind Eastham on the Cape.
Quincy is usually known as the city of Presidents, with rich history and bragging rights for having the first Dunks ever. But sit down for this one. One woman laughed when we told her the study results. “Quincy,” the woman laughed. Stacker, a website research publication, ranked the best beach towns in Massachusetts. Eastham on the Cape came in at #1, Edgartown on the Vineyard #3, and sandwiched in at #2 was Quincy. “That is a bit surprising,” one man said.
Wollaston has life-guarded beaches and plenty of space to lay out your blankets and beautiful views. Dave Murphy is Quincy’s Commissioner of Natural Resources. “We have neighborhood beaches in Squantum, Adam’s Shore and Merrymount, Hough’s Neck, Germantown, and Quincy Point. All of our waterfront neighborhoods have nice neighborhood beaches,” said Murphy.
The ranking was determined by a number of factors including access and activities for families. “The community. Great places to hang out and socialize,” one woman said. “It’s so easy to just park and walk on the beach,” said a beachgoer. “It’s quiet too,” another woman said. “It’s a great kept secret and if you don’t know where those 11 beaches are that is fine with us,” said Murphy.
8-year-old Ella says she ranks her favorite beaches the old-fashioned way. “Ice cream,” Ella said.
