Arrest made in Lawrence double shooting

LAWRENCE, Mass. — An investigation is underway after two people were shot in Lawrence on Friday morning, officials said.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting in the area of Manchester and May streets found two people suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

Carmelo Baez, 44, of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and armed robbery while masked with a firearm.

The victims, whose names were not released, were treated at the scene and transported to Lawrence General Hospital.

“This is not believed to be a random act of violence,” police said in a statement.
