Police identify Chicopee boy found in Connecticut River

CHICOPEE, Mass. — The Hampden County District Attorney’s office announced, on Friday, they identified the body that was recovered from the Connecticut River on Wednesday, April 14, as 12-year-old Aiden Blanchard of Chicopee.

Aiden was last seen around 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the area of the Chicopee River boat ramp near Medina Street on February 5.

At 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the Chicopee Police Department Underwater Response Team was actively searching the Connecticut and Chicopee Rivers as part of their ongoing search and recovery operation of the missing Chicopee boy. Officers were able to recover the body in the water between the North End Bridge and Memorial Bridge.

Shortly after, both the Chicopee Police Detective Bureau and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office were called to the scene. After recovering the body, the victim was then transported to the Hampden County Medical Examiner’s Office and later identified as Aiden.

The Hampden County D.A. said this is an ongoing investigation that will be conducted by the Chicopee Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
