HANOVER, Mass. — This week, Hanover and Rockland Police joined the Massachusetts State Police in a search of Studley’s Pond in Rockland as they looked for Brittany McCormack, a 27-year-old mother of two.
Brittany McCormack was last seen on July 6, 2021, visiting her mother’s house and has not been seen since.
Eight months later, Brittany’s family is holding out little hope that Brittany is still alive.
“I do not believe that Brittany is alive. I do not believe that Brittany is just out there and doesn’t want to come home,” Brittany’s sister, Sommer McCormack told me.
Wednesday’s search focused on the area around Studley’s Pond, a location where Brittany hung out with her friends.
At one point, a K9 cadaver dog signaled a possible hit, but when police took a closer look, they found no trace of Brittany.
A new search is scheduled for Friday.
At Studley Pond, Sommer McCormack joined me on the day after the search.
She told me it was not easy visiting the location.
“As much as she loved the water, and dancing in the water, I know she would love to just be home with my mom and the kids and with all of us and be happy that way,” McCormack said.
Brittany McCormack struggled with substance abuse and was friends with many others who shared the same demons.
Sommer doesn’t know what happened to her sister, but she can’t rule out the possibility that Brittany could have fallen victim to foul play.
In the meantime, as police continue to search for Brittany, Sommer and her family are offering a five thousand dollar reward for information.
She’s hoping someone that Brittany trusted in life, will tell them where Brittany is right now.
“I believe people know where she is. I believe it’s more than one person that actually knows where she is. And I believe they are all very, very scared to talk,” McCormack said. “We just want my sister back.”
