SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. — A North Shore restaurant has announced plans to welcome diners back after part of the seawall that supports the eatery collapsed into the ocean.
Mission on the Bay on Humphrey Street in Swampscott will reopen its doors on Friday, June 9, more than a month after the chunks of the eroded wall broke loose as about 60 people ate lunch inside on May 4.
The town’s building inspector ultimately determined that the restaurant must remain closed until repairs were made to the wall, but things have since been restored to working order.
“Our brief voyage as ‘Mission in the Bay’ ends June 9,” the restaurant said in a Facebook post. “We’re beyond excited to be back on shore, ready to serve up your favorites!”
There were no reported injuries in the collapse.
The owners of Mission on the Bay have two other restaurants on the North Shore - the Mission Boat House in Beverly and the Beach House in Revere.
During the closure, Mission on the Bay customers were allowed to transfer their reservations to those establishments.
