Quick thinking: State Police Trooper gives emergency escort to woman in labor

RANDOLPH, Mass. — Some quick thinking by a Massachusetts State Police Trooper on his way home from an overnight shift secured the safe transport of a woman in labor.

Trooper Jonathan Freedman was returning home after working a midnight shift out of the State Police Tunnels Barracks Monday morning when he was flagged down by a woman standing outside of a car on Route 24 south in Randolph.

The woman told him that her friend, who was in the back seat of the car, had gone into labor and the birth of the child appeared imminent.

Knowing that traffic was heavy and it would take too long for an ambulance to get to them, Trooper Freedman performed an emergency escort of the two women to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton.

His quick thinking ensured the expectant mother got to the hospital on time to deliver a healthy baby. Both mom and child are doing well.
