Randolph teen charged in deadly Brighton crash that killed Maine woman

BOSTON — 19-year-old Anderson Nova of Randolph is held on high bail as he faces charges stemming from a fatal crash in Brighton Monday night.

The Massachusetts State Police have identified the victim as 53-year-old Dina Donahue of Topsham, Maine. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to a prosecutor, just before 10 p.m. Monday, Mass State Police Troopers saw a rented Buick Enclave SUV, driven by Nova, speeding past them in Brighton. The trooper turned on his emergency lights but did not pursue the SUV.

The SUV crashed into Donahue’s Honda Civic at the corner of Western Avenue and the Leo Birmingham Parkway.

At Brighton District Court, a prosecutor said when Troopers arrived on scene, Nova was carrying a medium-sized dog and was trying to run away. Authorities say Nova did not have permission to drive the rented SUV. State Police allege they found credit cards and checks on Nova that did not belong to him.

Anderson Nova has open cases in Plymouth and Framingham District Court. His most recent court appearance was on December 2 when he was arraigned in Framingham District Court for receiving stolen property. Bail for those cases has been revoked.

Nova has been charged with:

  • Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation;
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
  • Operating After Suspension;
  • Speeding;
  • Leaving the Scene of a Crash Causing Personal Injury or Death;
  • Receiving Stolen Property; and
  • Using a Motor Vehicle Without Authority.

Bail in the current case is set at $100,000. Nova is due back in court in February,
